MOMENTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Student Excellence Award (2007)
Graduate School of Natural Science and Technology
Okayama University

This award is basically a full tuition fee exemption (menjou) by achievement for two consecutive semesters, exclusive for PhD students. The score is based on publication and proceeding.

Master Graduation and INPEX Shaonkai

INPEX scholarship foundation arranged this shaonkai meeting to congratulate me on my graduation and also to honor my professor.

Don't expect for academic regalia robe and cap. Most of Japanese male students are using black suits in graduation ceremony. But lucky most of the girls are using beautiful kimonos. They wake up early before sunrise to visit beauty salon and rent the kimono. Kimono is very expensive, so renting is a common practice.

Japanese Language Proficiency 2nd Level (Nihongo Nouryoku Shiken)

...

Classical guitar performance - INPEX year end party 2006

Performance again, with two songs composed by Jubing Kristianto: Song for Renny and Rickshaw, with faster tempo.

Excellence Award - Introduction to Intermediate Japanese Level (2005)
Excellence Award - Beginner Japanese 2nd Level (2004)

Just scored more than 90 in paper test, so it doesn't mean that I could speak Japanese well at that time. I got the award in two consecutive course periods.

Classical guitar performance - INPEX year end party 2004

I made my first performance in year-end party of INPEX foundation with two songs: Greensleeves and Marriage de Amor.

No, I'm not a professional, not even deserve for amateur title. I never took any formal class in classical guitar. My friend taught me how to play Greensleeves and Marriage de Amor during the end of junior high school, and somehow I really like the sound. I continued to learn by myself with the help of an old book which I found from local town library, and after I moved to another town, I can't find the same book anymore. It is a shame that such wonderful masterpiece is no longer exists in bookstore.

Live and Study in Japan

Landed on Narita airport, stayed in Tokyo for 1 week, departed to Okayama for studying master course, and enjoy student life in Japan.

One day after I landed for the first time in Japan, I went out strolling around Tokyo by myself, and so I have no idea why there are so many sissy who are afraid to walk around alone just because they can't speak Japanese.

Appointed as Lecturer of Chemistry, Brawijaya University

Twenty one years young lecturer? :D
The left picture shows young lectures who were appointed at the same year, while the right picture was taken when I was sleeping during an extremely boring activity called "prajabatan" training.

Accepted as INPEX Scholarship and ADS (Australian Development Scholarship) Student

Both of the scholarship foundations accepted me as their scholarship student, and I decided to take INPEX scholarship and study in Okayama University - Japan (INPEX foundation announced their selection result in the first place anyway).

Writing Visual Basic Programming book, published by ANDI Publisher

First, I built a web site to share my work in game programming, and then I decided to write a book to share my knowledge in game programming. The book was written in Indonesian Language, and it has been published by ANDI Publisher Yogyakarta. It has been re-printed three times when I wrote this paragraph.

I always want to update and write more book, but alas, I was chased by weekly report during my Master course, and now even hectic during Doctor course.

Bachelor Graduation
Holds new record for the highest GPA in Science Faculty - Brawijaya University (2003)
The Youngest Cum Laude

Graduated from Brawijaya University in 3.5 years with 3.75 GPA. An officer of my university said that the GPA was a new record in Mathematic and Science faculty (2003). But it seemed that a students has surpassed this GPA and effectively broke the record.

My parents couldn't come to my graduation ceremony, so one of my best friend and also my girlfriend came to represent their place. You can watch my graduation ceremony videos here, though it's in Indonesian language.

Scholarship from Djarum Company
Scholarship from Brawijaya University

Djarum is a cigarette company, but you don't have to smoke to get their scholarship, and in fact I'm not smoking, thus in an interview they asked me about my opinions toward people who smoke. I got Djarum scholarship at the last year of my bachelor course, and before this I received a smaller amount scholarship from Brawijaya University.

Part-time job in education field

I have taken a part time job in educational field since 2000, because my parents couldn't support my living nor my education cost anymore. This part-time job runs from 2:00 to sometimes 10:00 PM.

Discussing with young student is very fun. It helped me to reduce stress, especially when the student is a pretty schoolgirl who has tender heart :)
Most of my students are from St. Yusuf senior high school, and the rest are from St. Albertus senior high school.

Teaching in Kedampul village

Kedampul is a small-traditional village, and always become target for college-KKN*) activities because it was still categorized as poor-village by government. I taught students of local elementary school in there for 1 month (last January 2002). Although my position is math teacher, I spent my time most to motivate them to continue their study. Sadly, even they want to continue their study to junior high school, their parents didn't have interest to support them.

KKN or Kuliah Kerja Nyata (real-work college?), hell with the name, is an activity which demands college students to visit and making contribution to a traditional village for several days. It is commonly a compulsory subject worth of credit point in most of universities in Indonesia. Since many borjuis-students from private universities tend to bring money instead of idea to the village, some of the villagers think that KKN is equal to students donating money to spend their night in there.

Entrepeneurship seminar

Two days seminar to tackle the most critical problem in Indonesian student character. One interesting quote from the main speaker, "(Indonesian people) don't want to become entrepeneur, but gladly want to be a part of military. They are afraid to lose their money, but they are not afraid to lose their life."

Highest NEM competition in Senior High School (NEM = Pure National Examination Score)
Highest NEM among region II of Government Senior High School Samarinda
Highest Chemistry NEM in East Borneo Province (1999)

From left-to-right: Gold medal (me), Erminawati (teacher), Silver medal (Dewi), and Bronze medal (Harris).

1st Place of Book Review Competition

I reviewed a book about producing traditional food Tempe from Kecipir (a variety of bean). Tempe is usually made from soybean, and it is well consumed in Indonesia.

The competition was held during 52th year Indonesia Indepency celebration.

3rd Place of English Essay Competition

The competition theme was "Experience is the best teacher'". The cute girl on my right-side is the 2nd winner, and next to her is the 1st winner who took EF home-stay program in America for about 2 years (nice eh?).

The competition was held during 52th year Indonesian Indepedency celebration.

2nd Place of Stamp Design Competition (Indonesian Postal Service)
2nd Place of AIDS Poster Design Competition

The AIDS poster design competition was held when I was in 2nd grade of senior high school, while the stamp design competition was held one year later.

In those competitions, the guy who beat me was always Kristian (standing next to me in the picture). He's a great illustrator, but unfortunately I lost contact with him now.

Scholarship from Ministry of Education

Nice, but the amount is only enough to cover the tuition fee in my high school. This scholarship required me and my GF to visit postal office to take the sum. Fortunately, the postman was so nice to us, unlike most pesky civil servant whom I often encountered in various public service area.
On the next year, the most hateful teacher in this school became the person-in-charge for scholarship selection, and then no more scholarship for us. Thank God, who want to be in debt with that sick guy?

1st Place of Creativity Competition - Siswa Teladan Award
3rd Place of Creativity Competition - Siswa Teladan Award (Province rank)

"Siswa Teladan" means a student who serve as a good model for other students. Really I don't think I deserve such title because I'm a stupid and a free man who ate during the class, sat on table, skipped some boring class, etc., etc. The 3rd grade was belong to Dewi (who stand next to my teacher). All of my trophies were taken by school :(

Wall Magazine Team

Wall magazine team in my senior high school was suck when I joined them for the first time. About 15 members with no activity nor coordination. After I finished my journalistic school out there, I was appointed as the new chief. I decided to recruit only three team members: Kristian (the right-most), and Andre (next to Kristian), and Febriyani (not in the picture). We were success to revive this journalistic group.

Chemistry Study Group

My interest in chemistry was started in this small study group.
